 ESNNA CODE – RESPONSIBLE TOURISM

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) of Peru has developed a national policy against the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents (ESNNA). The ESNNA Code and Peru Wellness Travel have entered into a joint agreement to implement actions aimed at preventing and eradicating this issue.

The ESNNA Program and Our Commitment

This program, as part of social development and the protection of vulnerable populations, is a broad and complex initiative led by Mincetur.

It is designed to raise awareness and provide training throughout the tourism sector in our country, with the goal of preventing and finally eliminating the sexual exploitation of minors.

ESNNA calls for adherence to a Code of Conduct, signed in agreement with Mincetur. This code requires companies to disseminate the initiative, its rules, and objectives. It also mandates proper training for both staff and suppliers. Naturally, the company commits to operating in accordance with all requirements of the Code.

Unfortunately, child trafficking remains a serious issue in Peru, however, it is actively being addressed. By promoting ethically responsible tourism, Peru Wellness Travel helps foster development, economic activity, and improvements in the quality of life in the destinations we visit. Aligned with this approach, our commitment to the ESNNA program also drives our contribution to the reduction and eradication of child sexual exploitation.

ACTIONS FRAMED WITHIN THE ESNNA CODE

Adherence to the ESNNA Program’s Code of Conduct commits us to consistently implement a series of actions that are carried out and reinforced as part of our activities.

·         Our office staff, as well as logistics personnel (guides, cooks, drivers, porters), are properly trained to contribute to the Code of Conduct. Tourists, whether national or foreign, are neither offered nor allowed to make any requests related to sexual tourism involving children or adolescents, for both ethical and legal reasons.

·         In the same vein, we work together with our partners (hotels, restaurants, etc., and all their staff) to ensure that the objectives and commitments of the ESNNA program are met at every sector and stage of the tourism services we provide.

·         All of us at Peru Wellness Travel, as well as our partners in operations, are committed to enforcing the ESNNA Code of Conduct and to reporting any violations to the authorities when necessary.

·         As an additional commitment to social responsibility policies at Peru Wellness Travel, we contribute to the well-being of children in our country by consistently bringing income to the families in our tourist destinations and also supporting children on special occasions.

The actions of the ESNNA Code and Peru Wellness Travel are highlighted and prioritized within our social responsibility policies. We strive to ensure that tourism is an activity that brings only benefits to the region and the country.
